I was introduced to Africa in 2003 during NAI’s first international eco-tour. The experience led me to take a year’s leave of absence from my park ranger position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to experience life in Africa up close and personal.
While volunteering during 2004, I trained 55 Kenyans as Certified Interpretive Guides. When it was my time to come home, leaving my new Kenyan family and friends was difficult. A part of me remains there and I suspect it always will. There is a saying:
“Once you drink of African waters, you will return to drink again.”
Well, this is certainly true for me because I am currently on my sixth trip!
